1-Where I Began

I am a construction worker. I ware a hard hat and steel toed boots, and it is easy to say that what I do during the day has nothing to do with computers, but I do like getting on my computer in the evenings and reading. And in the reading I got the eCommerce bug. I am sort of computer literate, by that I mean I can get a working PC to do pretty much what I want it to do.

I had the idea that to succeed on the internet doing business you needed to be some web expert or a network specialist of some kind or have some special advanced knowledge of some kind. Well, one article followed by another has slowly convinced me otherwise.

If you or I wanted to start a business out of our garage, it could be anything, from selling magazines we have been saving since forever, or you may have a special skill with wood, you first select and organize a product or service you wish to provide to your community, your future customers. Next you introduce that product or service to your community, then if you have something your community wants, you sell it to them.

I have learned that the internet is basically the same only different. And that difference is like a magic act, once you learn the secret it is not particularly mysterious or difficult. At least, it is well with in an average construction workers possibility of learning. And I am convinced that since I have been able to teach my self other things I should be able to learn this as well.

I invite you to join me on this adventure. If you have ever taught yourself anything like music or a bit of a foreign language or to fix an appliance or what ever, then you can learn this as well. Lets do this together and go from a eCommerce Dreamer and eCommerce Newbee, and actually do a little business and make a few dollars along the way.

After a little looking around I found a free web site ecourse on internet business that gives the details that I need as a beginner.

2-Wrong Ideas

I wonder how many others have wrong ideas about internet business, eCommerce, like I did before I started.

My idea of eCommerce was a department store web pages like Wal-Mart.com where they list something like 100,000 items, or some lonely web page where someone is trying to sell a few different products. The Wal-Mart web site I know does a huge volume, in fact I have been told that Wal-Mart sells more on their web site then their largest most successful Wal-Mart Super Store.

I had the idea that web sites that sell a single item to a few similar items were all about the same. I view them as road side stands, that sell yard produce or items that were built in a back yard garage. Yea, it is a business, but you can not really make a living doing it.

What is more valuable to eCommerce newbies then a subscriber list, which is called the Gold of internet business?

I don’t remember which “You to can eCommerce” web site I went to first or which order but after reading lots of them I was totally hooked on the idea. But I had no idea of where to start or what to do next. What I did was more of a, “well what else could I do” then anything else. I started signing up for every free eCommerce newsletter I came across. And looking back, there was nothing better I could have done.

I could read only so many e-mails and I just could not stand it any longer. I had to sign up for something.

The first one I signed up on lasted one day before I canceled. It was some kind of 1-2-3 Easy Steps to internet success. The promotional material had all kinds of info on how they provide all the information and resources to set you up in an internet business. They would provide you with email letters you can send out to all your contacts and an exciting blog page to drive your message and more and more. So being convinced that it would be easy I signed up.

What does an Internet business organization look like?

I now know what I want to achieve in my internet business but I don’t know how to organize my business. I am getting all these associations and I am not controlling them.
